Ayton is a quaint community town in the municipality of West Grey in Grey County, formerly Normanby Township, with a home town feeling with conveniences.
Located at the intersection of Grey Road 3 and Grey Road 9, neighbouring Neustadt, South West of Durham, 15 minutes south of Hanover and approximately 20 minutes off Highway 6, North of Mount Forrest, it is easily accessible to passer buyers.
The original town site was laid out in 1855 and first to settle was William Butcher and Henry McMahon but without a name till it was named after the family of Charles Ayton. With a population of approximately 600 Ayton is a prosperous farming area located on the South Saugeen River. With its own public school, Normanby Public School draws children from the neighbouring community of Neustadt and the surrounding area and is home of the local library.
For the sports minded, the Arena has a long ice season where those enjoying the hockey season can get in some extra hockey camps in the month of August. The months of June and July host roller skating when the ice is out. There is also a baseball diamond which is located in the Centennial Hall Park which is the centre of many yearly baseball tournaments and the annual "Family Fun Day" in July. In the town you will find a couple of service stations one with a garage, general store with LCBO, a construction company, post office, graphic businesses, chicken farms, organic food location, tavern, Royal Bank, volunteer fire department, and insurance company, to name a few of the businesses.
